Zubin Mehta, the internationally acclaimed Los Angeles-based music conductor of Indian origin, will enthral his fans at a series of charity concerts in Mumbai this October. The October 7-12 concerts, organised by the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation (MMMF), are to raise money for a music school that the 72-year-old maestro is planning to start in Mumbai. While four concerts will be held at the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, the mega-charity event will be held at the Brabourne Stadium Oct 11, said an MMMF spokesperson. A Parsi, Mehta was born in Mumbai but moved to Vienna at the age of 18 to learn Western classical music. The MMMF was founded in 1995 to promote Western classical music and in the memory of the late Mehli Mehta, Zubin Mehta's father. In the 1930s and 1940s, Mehli Mehta was the driving force behind the Bombay String Quartet, Bombay Symphony Orchestra and the Western classical music scenario in the city. Zubin Mehta has been associated with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony , New York Philharmonic and Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and is a lifelong music director with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He has collaborated with music legends around the world, including Indian sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar and his audiences have included the royalty, rulers and other international celebrities. India conferred one of its highest civilian honours, the Padma Vibhushan, on him in 2001 and later he received the Kennedy Centre Honours in 2006.

The music maestro, who is making waves in the Tamil and Hindi film industries had recently stated in an interview that Kamal has demanded many songs for the film, as the script had ample scope for music. To a question on Kamal's reported remarks that movies should be made without songs, Rahman said, 'I don't think so. If it is the case, then why would Kamal ask for more songs to be incorporated in 'Marmayogi'. 'Marmayogi' will have new and interesting music, says Rahman. The ace music director is a happy man for his 'Sakkarakatti' audio is doing terrific business, while 'Sultan - The Warrior' and 'Robot' are getting ready.
Y. G. Mahendran, known for his enthusiasm for stage plays has got his team to perform a drama titled, 'Sudesi Iyer'. This play is so successful that it has completed 50 shows and is still going strong. Superstar Rajinikanth went over to watch the play and was totally in appreciation of the enactment, Y. G. Mahendran and all his team players. He congratulated each and every member of the team and even proceeded to send than an appreciation letter. The superstar had stated in the letter his appreciation for the play in general and wished it to complete 100 shows. A pat from the superstar is indeed a great honor.
Mammootty's 'Parunthu' opened to big audiences as expected. The movie was released in 80 stations across Kerala to grab the maximum from the initials. The first day first show, opened as early as 12 am in some of the theatres in the Malappuram district with the typical Mammootty opening, while more than half a dozen theatres started their first shows as early as 6 am. The movie is said to be a good family entertainer according the opening day viewers.

Film maker Apoorva Lakhia who after churning out a super hit 'Shootout At Lokhandwala' which gave the struggling leading man Vivek Oberoi a second life in B-Town is currently looking forward to the release of his next action thriller 'Mission Istanbul' which has been getting very good pre release reviews. But the successful director is not resting on these positive feedbacks and has gone ahead and finalized his next project. This one too will be having its share of great action moments but will be giving more importance to humour. The new movie has been given the title 'Generation X' and will become the launching pad of the winners of the reality show "Kissko Milega Ticket To Bollywood". To be financed by Popkorn Entertainment of Suniel Shetty and Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures, this film will start it's canning from August. Sanjay Dutt and Tusshar Kapoor have already been signed for the 'Generation X'. The four actors from 'Mission Istaanbul', Zayed Khan, Nikitin Dheer, Shabbir Ahluwalia and Suniel Shetty will also be doing important roles in the new movie.
Rajinikanth's P.Vasu directed Kuselan release has been confirmed for the first week of August (1 or 8th), depending on the completion of post production work. Some patchwork shoot of the film is happening in Chennai, while the graphics is yet to be completed. A grand 'Ganamela' by G.V Prakash the music director of the film and the singers who sang in the film will be held on July 19 in Chennai. According to some unconfirmed reports, Mohanlal is said to have been paid around four crores for appearing in this international movie project. The Superstar of Malayalam has earmarked a continuous 125 days for the shoot of this film, which will begin by the third week of August.
A rumour has been making the rounds in Kerala media that Asin is going to do an international ad campaign with Jackie Chan, to be shot in Japan! Jackie Chan is the flavour of the season ever since he came for the audio launch of Dasavatharam in Chennai. Now Mohanlal is supposed to do the film Nairsen with him in September. At the Dasavatharam audio launch, Jackie was introduced to Asin and photographed together which may have lend credence to the story that Asin is going to do an ad with him. "Konkona will be playing a role of a typical woman from today's society and is paired opposite Paresh, that's not all; she also gets paired opposite Rahul Khanna, who plays a millionaire in the film, and opposite Javed Jaffrey as well. Neha Dhupia's character in the film is also something to watch out for. Rahul will shed his image of a simple look as he will be showcased as a flamboyant and maverick kind a character, his looks will be terrific and stylized; in short he will look different."So what is Fantastic all about? "Of course you do not expect me to tell you the story now. But I'll tell you this, it revolves around the society, page 3, lifestyle and such. I have written both the screenplay and lyrics for the songs as well", says Sanjay. This is part of the three-film deal with the Percept Pictures right? "Yes, I will be doing two other films with them one is an action comedy and the other is a sarcastically comedy flick. It was a joyous moment for Tamil cinema as 'Paruthi Veeran' grabbed six awards including the awards for best actor and actress at the 55th annual Filmfare Awards held in Chennai on Saturday. Veteran film personalities Sivakumar and Jayapradha were conferred the lifetime achievement awards on the occasion.Quite typical to any film award functions, the annual Filmfare awards at Chennai Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium witnessed variety dance performances by Poonam Bajwa, Rambha, Dhivya, Hanshika Motwani, Shobana, Namitha, Shriya, Raja and Vineeth.
